MONMOUTH

Photos by Shaun Chew Page last updated: 2023-06-10

May 2005

Here's Monmouth, located just down the hill from the Naval Temple at the Kymin. Vehicular access to the mast site is difficult, so I'd advise anyone who wishes to visit to park at the Naval temple and walkdown the hill to the mast.

It's rather confusing because there is a mast near the temple, but on closer inspection this only carries mobile communications. The view from the Kymin is impressive. A footpath runs right alongside the mast, but don't ask me about the plywood - some sheets of plywood stuck vertically into the ground!

TETRA has been added to the site, and it's interesting that the colinears are actually higher than the mastlightning finial - I hope those antennas are designed to take some electricity!

Monmouth was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 24-Jul-1981 to serve about 5000 people. S4C was added in February 1985. From 22-Sep-2000 the ERP at Monmouth was increased by 6dB (59W to 236W), as a consequence of interim DTT equalisation changes at Mendip.
