THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
EARLS HILL
Photos by Jack Richardson | Page last updated: 2024-05-07 |
Came up here with a friend on a day out to Stirling. Parked just down from the farm house and walked up the track to the site. Great views over Central Scotland from the top. Where we parked somebody had dumped a car seat, comfortable after a short hike! |
A general overview of the installations at Earls Hill. |
First along the track you pass the Arqiva DAB tower |
According to Ofcom parameters, the top stack is used by the BBC, D1, Glasgow and Edinburgh muxes. Height 50m. The two dipoles below are used for the Central Scotland mux. Height 37m. |
The various huts. The black metal corrugated shed is where the DAB transmitters are. The GPS cones are attached to the gate post. |
DAB dish |
Arqiva site number reads 240354. |
Next along the track you pass these. Looks very much like an AM installation. I am guessing they are connected with the Dectra navigation system? |
One of the mast bases. |
Last along the track is the Central FM and Airwave towers. |
The slanted double dipoles for Central FM are clear, but where is the DAB antenna? According to Ofcom data, it should be 24m AGL. |
Is it any of these...? |
The antennas for Central FM |
I am guessing the Central FM transmitter and DAB mux is in the building on the left? |
Forth Bridges and Edinburgh. Grangemouth on the right. |
Kirk o' Shotts, Black Hill and Tinto on the right. |
