MANCHESTER (BRITISH MUSLIM HERITAGE CENTRE)

Photos by Ringway Manchester Page last updated: 2024-08-12

FM STL (2024 UPDATE)

The previous entry on the British Muslim Heritage Centre is for the AM station which is now gone. Heritage FM replaced it in early 2019.

Heritage serves, not exclusively, but predominantly, the Muslim Community in Manchester, particularly living in the Central areas of Manchester. The station station produces programmes based on social, religious and cultural challenges facing communities, particularly Muslims, and encourages discussion and debate between in the Muslim and the wider non-Muslim communities.

The station originally held a licence to broadcast a community radio service on medium wave (AM), which it surrendered when its FM service commenced on 90.6 in 2019.

Key programming is delivered in English with additional programming in ethnic languages relevant to the communities it serves.

The studios are based here at the stunning British Muslim Heritage Centre in Whalley Range.

I had a look around the rooftop looking for evidence of a studio to transmitter link and after a while, and almost giving up, I found it.

It’s a microwave link that looks like a Ubiquiti LiteBeam 5GHz link in the turret of this tower that looks out towards the transmitter site at Duffield Court.
