THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
WYTHENSHAWE

The main change at this site is the addition of the Cheshire East small-scale DAB transmitter. Also the STL for Wythenshawe FM is now via a 5.8 GHz link. I couldn't find the reciprocal on Wythenshawe Forum but a later browse of Google street view shows it is there. |
The Wythenshawe site is the rooftop of Edwards Court where a five element band III Yagi has been added to transmit the Cheshire East small-scale DAB multiplex. Edwards Court is just 450m away from the Wythenshawe FM studio in the Wythenshawe Centre. |
The DAB Yagi is on the left. Ofcom data indicates it faces west, north-west (295 degrees). The Wythenshawe FM antenna is the one on the right; the third one along. |
The Wythenshawe FM studio to transmitter link in days gone by was a horizontal dipole that supported a Band 1 VHF STL on 52.75MHz but today it’s sent over this small microwave dish. This link sends the feed from the studio up to the transmitter. |
The studio is located here inside the forum building. I didn’t go through the door and I didn’t see any signs of life, but the station was absolutely on the air and sounding great. |
