TOROSAY

A couple of days camping on Mull saw me visit Glengorm and Torosay. Torosay involves a walk up a track from a small car park at the bottom. I'd also wanted to do the island's only corbett, Dùn da Ghaoithe, conveniently also on the same walk. Great views over mountains, islands, sea, no wonder this was chosen as the areas UHF site. It got me thinking how would FM/DAB coverage be from up here, rather than from Oban/Fort William/Cow Hill, which don't have as much aspect (saying that, Cow Hill sees up Loch Eil better, and goes a fair way up the A82 towards Fort Augustus).

Access gate at the bottom of the track.

Not easy to see, but in the centre of the photo is South Knapdale, 39 miles away.

Reserve UHF cylinder

I'd imagine these are still in use for the DTT feeds? Or a backup?

Further up the track (in fact where the track ends and the path begins up the hills) lies the BT site.

Glengorm and Tobermory

Oban. Almost impossible to see without zooming in, the Oban transmitter site is at the far right of this photo, above the hill on Kerrera. Beinn Bhuidhe, Ben Vorlich and Ben Vane behind.

Looking north east. On the left is the view up Loch Linnhe towards Fort William. Lismore is the island in the middle. The boat is on it's way to Oban from Craignure.
