THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
BURY (JACKSON FOLD FARM)

This is what’s left of a low power AM transmission site in Bury, Greater Manchester. Its owner had had to forfeit its licence. This was home to Salaam BCR, or Bury Community Radio. It came on air in April 2020 on 1566 KHz AM across Bury and the surrounding area but the station didn’t last long. In 2022 they breached their licencing conditions for failing to comply with three key commitments and were warned. Statements aired twice on 17 October 2024 that included abusive and derogatory references to Jewish people. Ultimately it was left with no option but to surrender its broadcasting licence for 1566AM in October 2024. In June this year, Ofcom fined the former operator of Salaam BCR £3,500 after ruling that broadcasts on the station included antisemitic hate speech. It’s important to point out that the owners of the farm are likely not involved in any way with the station except the fact that they just leased a field for the antenna.

The site from above with the antenna visible in the field to the right.

As you can see, the antenna setup was a guyed vertical antenna that radiated the signal. It has since been completely destroyed and its remains lie in the field on Jacksons Fold Farm.
