THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
MANNINGTREE
| Photos by Lewie Stewart-Cutting | Page last updated: 2026-09-29 |
Nothing much has changed at Manningtree since Mark Carver visited in 2015, except that the MF wire antenna has been removed.
A shot looking up at the main broadcast antennas. Starting from the top down we have the 4 tier, band III, DAB antenna transmitting BBC National DAB (12B-5kw), Digital One (11D-0.5kw) and Essex DAB (12D-0.75kw). Below, is the 4 tier band II spearhead antenna system which transmits BBC Radio 1 on 97.7 MHz, Radio 2 on 88.1 MHz, Radio 3 90.3 MHz and Radio 4 92.5 MHz all at 5kw with circular polarisation. Below that is a two tier band II antenna which transmits BBC Radio Suffolk on 103.9 MHz at 5kw.
The AM services which were BBC Radio Essex and Absolute Radio was sadly removed between 2021 and 2023 and so as a result the aerial that was suspended from the mast has been removed.
An attempt at some "serious photography"! (I'm definitely not a professional photographer)
