MINEHEAD NORTH

Photos by Mervyn Mugford and Peter Barrington Page last updated: 2011-07-29

Mervyn wrote: Having tried Google satellite view and Streetmap to identify the location of the station, I reasoned if you just kept walking uphill on North Hill you should be able to see something. Fortunately there was a public bridleway.

The four yagis direct maximum power over Minehead. Ofcom Tx params says the license permits 2kw horizontal and 2kw vertical.

Following a site visit in December 2010 Ofcom found the station to be in breach of its licence and that the "The transmitter and antenna had been replaced without consultation with Ofcom". In July 2011 Ofcom decided to reduce the validity period of the licence by one year. See links below for more details.

At the time of Mervyn's visit the transmitter appeared to be off-air.

Maximum power is directed towards Minehead Town. Ofcom tx params states 2kw in both horizontal and vertical plane though obviously no horizontal elements here.

The transmitter is probably located in one of the adjacent farm buildings

The above photo was taken by Peter Barrington in June 2010 and shows the original antenna arrangement
