| Scoval (and Uig) can be found lurking in the NW corner of the Isle of Skye. The first shot was taken from the nearby village of Husabost. Alas the weather was appalling. I promise I'll return one day when the sun is shining. I was able to drive my old bus right up to the transmitter, although it was really scary because of the steepness and the potholes. The site is on top of a mountain, and the whole thing was a real adventure, what with the blizzard and everything. I took the pictures in a brief moment of relative calm, but even so I had to kneel or lay down to use the camera. It was impossible to take a picture standing up! Originally a BBC landlord site, Scoval entered service on 29th June 1979, with Channel 4 from May 1986. DSO was on 14th and 28th July 2010. |
| The trough aerials at Scoval are firing a narrow beam of HP signals across Little Minch. Their main purpose is to provide a feed to the Clettraval relay on Uist. It's understood that the troughs have now been replaced by panels. (see subsequent photos below) |
| These are quite substantial buildings for a small, 160W site. Presumably a little wooden shed wouldn't last five minutes here! |
| Above and below. Nigel J Coote subsequently visited the site and his photos show the tx panels that have replaced the troughs mentioned above. In addition Allan Macdonald has pointed out that the VP rx trough (visible in picture 5 above on the left leg of the tower) has been replaced by a log. |
