MALVERN

| Surprisingly, this site is not located high-up in the Malvern Hills, but at much lower level next to Worcester Road. The site is accessed from a well-maintained staircase alongside a residential driveway. Malvern was originally a BBC landlord site with BBC 2 entering service on 23rd November 1970. BBC 1 was added during December 1971, ITV from 26th May 1972 and Channel 4 in June 1983. The UHF cylinder contains a north-east facing cardioid. DTT was added late in 1999. DSO was on 7th and 21st September 2011. ILR Worcester (Radio Wyvern) launched on 4th October 1982 on 96.2 MHz. This frequency was changed to 102.8 MHz on 6th May 1986. Radio Hereford and Worcester launched on 14th February 1989 on 104.0 MHz. BBC DAB entered service on 4th February 2011. Hereford and Worcester DAB from 6th December 2013. | Picture taken from IBA Technical Review 23 showing the original (1982) ILR transmit aerial. This was replaced with the current CSA panels prior to the ILR frequency change from 96.2 to 102.8 MHz in 1986. |
