TENBY UHF

Photos by Mike Smith and Ed Thomas Page last updated: 2023-09-09

These pictures show Tenby, the UHF TV relay station.

Mike Smith visited the site some years ago, when it was a simple wooden pole.

Standard Tx set up for a relay of this size, log periodic array for the transmit radiators, but two single logs for reception of the off air feed, one at the top of the mast, one near the base, probably in a diversity configuration to combat tidal fading on the over sea link from Carmel.

Tenby was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 24-Nov-1978 to serve 1130 people. S4C was available from the launch on 1-Nov-1982.

DSO was on the 26th August and 23rd September 2009.

Ed Thomas revisited the site in 2011, after DSO. As you can see the wooden pole has gone, replaced by a steel mast, and populated by plenty of other non broadcast services.

You can see the second Rx log at the bottom of this shot.
