THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
LITTLEBOROUGH
Photos by Mark G7RJV | Page last updated: 2011-08-31 |
Early relay buildings were fairly large and intended for transposers which in many cases were physically larger and had different cooling requirements than the modern day equipment. Often the buildings would be split into two. One half of the building for BBC and the other for the IBA. Engineers for the respective organisation would only have access to their own area via a common area behind the front door. The small common area was also the location for the four channel combiner (Commutating line type mounted on a wall) and a toilet. Not certain if Littleborough is one of these sites which had separate equipment rooms and common area. Picture 2 - Notice the purposely built air vent (Vertical slot) to the left of the main door. At certain angles it is possible to see through to other side of the building. |
