PONTYPOOL

Photos by Ian Chalmers Page last updated: 2023-07-11

Ian's photos show the main UHF transmit antenna to be a set of dipoles, unshrouded. This was replaced by a cylinder in the run up to DSO, see separate page.

Pontypool was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service on 25-May-1973 to serve 43,000 people. S4C was available from the 1-Nov-1982 launch. Interim DTT entered service in October 1999. DSO was on 3rd and 31st March 2010.

BBC national FM radio was added in May 1981, transmitting with horizontal polarisation. This was re-engineered for mixed polarisation in August 1984. Radio's 1 & 4 were added on 15th January 1993.
