THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
MALLAIG
Photos by Mark Carver | Page last updated: 2023-06-05 |
Mark took a video camera to Scotland in 1996 and these stills are taken from his Video 8 tape. The feed station for TV and FM services is Glengorm, though the originating main transmitters are Blackhill (via Torosay) and Fort William FM. There are two separate 17m wooden poles. The right hand one for receiving aerials, the left for transmitting. The folded dipoles radiate the six FM radio services, and the arm with the two UHF dipoles can be seen just below. This former BBC landlord site entered service in December 1980 with both UHF TV and FM radio. Channel 4 was added on 20-Feb-1987. Radio's 1 & 4 entered service on 3-Dec-1993 at the same time as the site was re-engineered for mixed polarisation. |
