QUARNDON

The Derby & South Derbyshire areas have always suffered with poor DAB coverage, particularly noticeable on mobile units. The site at Quarndon is intended to fill the coverage gap between Sutton Coldfield and Waltham. I believe the original intention was to broadcast from the Drum Hill site, as per the Local DAB application, but for some reason this appears not to have been possible. Can anyone fill in the gap? BBC DAB entered service on 16th June 2011. Derbyshire DAB launched on 23rd July 2014. |
Approaching the site, the cows this time not on guard, this is what greets you. The cantilever on top has been replaced to allow the DAB dipoles to be mounted. |
The equipment enclosure has quite obviously been extended. The new pen only houses the Satellite dish, the new transmitter is in the old one. |
The Satellite dish in question |
The new BBC DAB transmitter is on the left, the Gold AM one on the right. |
The site from another angle, you can see the dipoles a little more clearly now. |
These are the broadcast dipoles. |
Looking a little closer we can see two stacked pairs, with a feeder each. |
The maintainance tag on the fence shows a stay check on the 21st July, so I think it would be safe to assume that some of the DAB work was done around this time too. |
