CHEPPING WYCOMBE

Photos by Kristen Cadman and Roger Piper Page last updated: 2014-07-26

Updated November 2007

Originally a BBC landlord site, TV channels 1 - 3 entered service on 28th May 1976, with Channel 4 from February 1985.

Roger: While in the High Wycombe area I couldn't resist a visit to Chepping Wycombe in the hope of snapping the new Mix 107 aerial.

I'd not been on site long when an Arqiva employee arrived. He immediately guessed I was snapping for mb21 and commented "There are more pictures on that site than we've got."

Above: Close up showing a two dipole array, similar to that at Amersham, which has been added off the side of the top platform since Kristen Cadman photographed the mast.

The original version of this page included the question: "Can anyone identify these vertically polarised skeleton slot aerials with grid reflector? There is one on each mast face about half way up."

The answer can be found in planning application for DAB: these are noted as "National Band 3" - a trunked PMR network operating in the lower part of Band III. This ceased operations some time ago and the panels have now been removed from this site - see 2012 photographs
