Ystalyfera serves the town of Ystradgynlais and the villages of Crynant, Seven Sisters, Cwmllynfell and Ystalyfera.

Ystalyfera receives its signal from Carmel, which is clearly visible from the site, being around 20 miles away as the crow flies.

The village in the background of the Ystalyfera TX shot is Seven Sisters.

Ystalyfera was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 1-Jul-1977 to serve 14,500 people.
S4C was available from the launch on 1-Nov-1982. DSO 26th August and 23rd September 2009.

The view looking down the Swansea valley from the Varteg Hill site. The Pontardawe TV Relay can be seen in the distance between 2 of the electricity pylons. Kilvey Hill is also visible from this site but is just off the left of this shot.
