April 2006

Greenside was built by the IBA for the Newcastle-upon-Tyne ILR service which launched on 15-Jul-1974 as Metro Radio on 1151 kHz. The frequency was changed to 1152 kHz on 23-Nov-1978.

This site works in the same way as Saffron Green (except slightly less directional) to protect services in Manchester and Glasgow on the same frequency. Manchester (Ashton Moss - Arqiva) and Glasgow (Dechmont Hill) similarly use directional arrays to facilitate shared use of 1152 kHz.
