A case of mistaken identity leads to something rather useful....

Rob writes:

"I was passing through London so decided to try and hit a couple of sites in the capital. On the face of it seemingly relatively easy to get to, there must have been a reason why these hadn't been done before, so in I stepped.

The White City self help is a self help relay managed by the BBC to cover a small area where the signal from Crystal Palace is blocked by the White City complex and the Westway.

I arrived at the White City tube station and took a look over behind me and spotted a suspicious looking Tx log, but no Rx could be found anywhere....."

So what HAD Rob found?

The building behind the White City tube station

It transpires that what Rob found wasn't the self help at all, but a test facility provided by the BBC to investigate DVB-T2 Lite. The relevant research paper is linked from the bottom of this page.

The log, pointing roughly NW.

BBC Doughnut which is nearby

Rob adds: "I think this is a road many of the contributors have walked! I did check down here, and the relay wasn't there. A misnomer if you ask me!"

No bitterness there then....
