Canterbury VHF Television

Photographs are dated February 1965 which was probably when the station was newly built.

As the Canterbury site was never adopted for the VHF FM Radio or UHF Television services it became redundant at the close-down of 405 line television.

There appears to be a new mobile radio station on an adjacent site, but I could see no signs of the original installation on the aerial photographs on google.

Canterbury broadcast on channel 5 in Band I. It relayed Swingate.

It is difficult to see the equipment accommodation. It could be a steel cabin under the tower, which would have been removed at decommissioning. Hence if there are still any traces then the tower foundations may be the only thing left to identify the location.

Ladders were obviously considered an unnecessary extravagance in 1965 even by the BBC.
