May 2017

In contrast to the TV relay which is handily located adjacent to a main road, this DAB site near Brechin proved difficult to reach due to navigational errors. The tower is prominent but the lower part is well-screened by trees from many directions!

A planning application in 2015 suggests the site is now managed by Vodafone. It appears the site was established by Mercury/Cable & Wireless, see link below.

The large ground-mounted dishes may remain (but weren't evident) however the main point-to-point SHF links have evidently been decommissioned leaving a relatively empty structure.

A distant shot as an interim measure. The DAB installation is two dipoles just above the tree line, on the left in this view.

The planning application and Ofcom data both give a height of 25 m above ground and maximum radiation due north. It seems the DAB feeds were to be provided via their own ground-mounted satellite dish - somewhat smaller than those previously at the site!
