Ofcom data shows Gateway 97.8 using the hospital site from 19 June 2015, with an NGR corresponding to a relatively minor building. On approach, however, it was clear the central tower block carried a number of antennas. In contrast to the original Gateway site at Kelting House mixed polarisation has been adopted and the Lindenblad array should improve coverage compared to the side-mounted dipole. Oddly despite appearances the structure is no taller...but the hospital is on higher ground.

On final approach it was clear there was a Lindenblad array up there, amongst other things. Needless to say from ground level it's not so obvious!

From the top of the multi storey car park there's a better view - but the lighting wasn't particularly good - and amongst the "domestic" and utility antennas a bit of a surprise...

The Lindenblad installation is very tidy - in contrast to some of its neighbours.

From another angle we see the top of an MF vertical...this is used by Basildon Hospital Radio on 1287 kHz. Planning documents for the Gateway antenna show the MF radiator as a guyed mast with what appears to be a loading coil in the centre section (the brown/white cylinder just visible).

Westley Heights is about 2 km to the west, on higher ground and with plenty of trees between.
