July 2017

Ibthorpe is a new DAB site, clinging onto the South of the North Wessex Downs. The tower is on an Ex Police site. According to the local planning website, the site was first in use in 1979. The current tower was erected in July 1988 with the arrival of a second mobile phone network. Initially it was 43.9m high, however a further application gives it as 45.1m. This was later extended by 12.2m to 57.3m in height, or if you believe a different application, a height of 55.7m. Lost yet?

It looks like visitors to this site have been causing problems, all photos on this page are taken from the public byway!

The tower, whatever height it may be (!).

Getting a little closer we can see the DAB antennas

The antennas point roughly due East, and cover the South West corner of the multiplex area.
