Ambergate was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service in June 1980 to serve 1350 people. It was a relay of Sutton Coldfield with site number 102.35. ITV was changed to relay Waltham from 1-Jan-1982. Channel 4 was added on 10-Oct-1986. BBC 1 & 2 were changed to relay Waltham in 1991. The tower was quite new at the time of Richard's visit, having been replaced in February 2002.
