Comments: Talley is a relay of Carmel

Hide historic services

Mick Glaves was the first photographer to visit this relay for us. He reported that The Talley relay is much harder to get at than nearby Llansawel, being on the top of a steep hill with no obvious vehicular access. As the temperature was about 30°C that day I decided against climbing the hill so you'll have to make do with this long shot taken from the Abbey at Talley.

Talley was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service on 30-May-1986 to serve 200 people. DSO was on the 26th August and 23rd September 2009.

Since then, Ben has been back with his intrepid Land Rover: Access was via a very steep track leading to a house near the top of the hill on which this TX stands. Public highway 'till the gates of the house, than a short (but steep!) footpath to the TX itself.

Talley is a very basic affair with a yagi as the recieve aerial and two pairs of crossed logs as the transmit antenna, the latter pointing up and down the valley covering Talley itself and the nearby village of Edwinsford.

The whole install looks like it's been here a while - it's well weather-beaten and all rather rusty!
