Lochinver is a fishing village at the head of a sea loch (no surprise, Loch Inver!) on the west coast of Scotland about 17 miles north of Ullapool (36 miles by road). The loch faces west with hills to the north and south.
The low power relay station is located on top of a square building on the eastern end of the harbour complex (visible on Google maps), possibly some kind of fish factory. I suspect this location was chosen as one of the most elevated positions, central to the village and with a clear sea path across to Eitshal on Lewis nearly 50 miles away.
The weather on the day was very cooperative. Not only was the trip to the village to get some photographs for mb21 successful, the folks in the nearby visitor centre very helpfully provided lots of local information for nearby walks, including the Point of Stoer a few miles to the north. From here it is possible to see across to the Isle of Lewis.
