Comments: Pillowell is a relay of Mendip

Show historic services

Pillowell in the Forest Of Dean. It has an abundance of logs at the top, all but one being horizontal. It is now listed by Ofcom as a dual polarisation relay, so the three horizontal logs and the topmost vertical log are presumably the transmit antennas, and the single horizontal log a few feet below is presumably the rx antenna on Mendip.

About 200m further into the forest, a TETRA mast has been built. I have no idea why it wasn't site shared with the TV mast, as most TETRA is.

The horizontal transmit aerials have the pair on the left pointing west-southwest (255 deg.), and the single aerial on the right pointing east (95 deg.). The vertically polarised aerial is pointing south. Lower down is the Mendip receive aerial.

The year was 1991. Note that the vertical polarised component must have been later.
