Creteway Down is now NGW's name for this site, which has also been known more simply as 'Folkestone' since the days when it provided VHF 405-line television to the area.

The original structure for the BBC television VHF channel 4, 405-line service, was a 37m stayed pole. This was the first BBC television relay station, and entered service on 14th July 1958. The linked BBC RD report at the end of this page refers to the new transmitting aerial which went into service on 1st August 1963. The 405-line service closed in January 1984. The current square tower went into service for BBC National radio & Radio Kent on 16th July 1992. KMFM service date 29th September 1997.
