THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

CROYDON

Photos by David Foord Page last updated: 2011-08-24

After the vintage black-and-white picture taken from ITA year book, the more recent photos below show how much more heavily the tower is populated today, and how surprisingly close it appears to be to a residential area.

The Croydon site, as well as transmitting most of the independent local radio services to London, has also, in recent years, acquired UHF television capability. It transmits Channel 5 to London and the South-East and can also be pressed into service to transmit ITV and Channel 4 in the event of a major problem at Crystal Palace.

The site is located on the A215 Beulah Hill, at the corner of South Norwood Hill and Church Road.
