THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

DUNKIRK

Photos by David Neale Page last updated: 2024-02-02

2004

This is one of Kent's tallest towers. It stands high on the North Downs next to the A2 dual carriageway between Faversham and Canterbury.

The tower is an old 300ft Chain Home Radar tower like the ones at Swingate and Stoke Holy Cross.

I really like the tower when lit up at night with its 3-levels of aircraft warning lights that can be seen from parts of Kent, Essex and Suffolk. Heart FM can be recieved from this site loud and clear as far away as Ipswich.

ILR East Kent (Invicta Radio), launched on 1-Oct-1984 on 95.1 MHz. On 6-Nov-1985 the frequency was changed to 102.8 MHz's as this was the GE84, ILR Canterbury, assignment.
