Rye Hill is located about 2mi South-West of the New Town of Harlow, and the TX's are mounted on a Three Valleys' Water Tower. It carries Heart (previously Harlows' local radio station - Ten 17) on 101.7 as well as DAB services from Digital One on 10D and NOW on 12D The two FM transmitting dipoles are on the NW corner of the tower, transmitting in the direction of Harlow, while the DAB transmitting dipoles are on the south face of the structure. |
Dan Glover took the above photo while passing through in July 2010 - but after careful study there's still no sign of the DAB antennas. |
Here's a closer view of the FM dipoles from the same visit. |
Further research suggested it might be possible to see something from the adjacent Parndon Wood nature reserve - so a further visit was made in July 2011. We can just see the DAB antenna - two dipoles - by peering through a gap in the trees. Can we do any better? |
There's a footpath which runs along the southern perimeter of the site, but a surface level covered reservoir starts to block the view. From here we would expect the DAB antenna to be somewhere on the left... |
The upper dipole is just visible on the left, between the two SHF dishes. The lower dipole is partly hidden by the parapet. |
Another view from further along the perimeter fence. |
