Whitehaven MF entered service in October 1951 with the North Home service on 692 kHz. A Northeast version of Radio 4 was also transmitted on 1151 kHz from 1968 to 1972. Radio Carlisle launched on 24th November 1973 on 1457 kHz.

With the frequency changes of 23rd November 1978, Radio Carlisle changed to 1458 kHz, 692 kHz became 909 kHz and now carried Radio 2 and Radio 1 was added on 1089 kHz.

27th August 1990, 909 kHz re-assigned to Radio 5.

30th June 1994, Radio 1, 1089 kHz closed.

Presumably the VHF yagi is directed towards Sandale and is providing either a main or stand-by feed of R. Cumbria.

[Ed] It is the RBS, from Sandale, for Radio Cumbria.
