Dartford Tunnel - January 2023

The Dartford Tunnel has a re-broadcast system, receiving MF, VHF and DAB services from various sites, and re-broadcasting them in the tunnel via a leaky feeder system. The tunnel has a Voice Break-in system for emergency use as detailed at entry to the tunnels.

The transmitters are located on the Essex end of the tunnels, with access restricted by ConnectPlus who manage the tunnels.

FM
BBC Nationals, BBC Kent and Classic FM are received from Wrotham;
BBC London and Greatest Hits (London) are received from Crystal Palace;
Capital FM, Magic FM and Heart London are received from Croydon;
BBC Essex is received from Benfleet.

MF: Radio 5 and TalkSport are received from Brookmans Park

Band 2 Receive antenna pointing towards Wrotham, the small "T" shaped metal work is an MF receive Antenna.

[Ed]. My examination of the pointing directions would indicate that the the band II aerial (the lower aerial), is oriented roughly midway between the directions of Wrotham and Crystal Palace/Croydon. The upper aerial looks to be band III and again is oriented to be a roughly midway between Wrotham and Westley Heights/ Benfleet.

Bottom left is a band II Yagi pointing towards Benfleet.
