I can remember when Essex Radio went on air on the 12th September 1981, and at the age of 11 being excited at the thought of a local radio station with the transmitter just down the road. I never got as close as I did when I took these pictures, though. The site is located at the far end of Rayleigh East water treatment works, presumably using the water as a ground plane.
