Veals Farm was built by the IBA for the Southampton ILR service which launched on 12th October 1986 as Ocean Sound.


At first site Veals Farm looks like a perfect, attractive, rural site but, as you can see it does not
welcome the casual visitor and was therefore difficult to photograph. Peter says: "In the end, I
was seen off by one of the dogs... and I'm not going back to take a pretty picture of him!"






This final picture shows two receiving aerials at the site. By deduction, if the Band II antenna is pointing to
Chillerton Down, that means that the MF frame is facing Farlington Marshes, where the Smooth Radio
Portsmouth site is located. Presumably this provides an RBS (re-broadcast standby) feed for emergencies.
