THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
STOCKLAND HILL
Photos by Martin Watkins and mb21 | Page last updated: 2012-02-15 |
On these pages we will give you some idea of the work involved in updating a high power main station in the run-up to digital switchover. We are indebted to Laura, Ian, Colin and the team working at Stockland Hill for their help and co-operation. |
Looking straight up the cylinder; the bright patch is light coming through the translucent access hatch at the very top. |
A few days later, now partly dismantled... Those kind people at Babcocks had removed some of the GRP sheets so that Mike and I could have a better look. |
Just in front of the cylinder is a single full length EMI slot, about 2 m long. On each of the three faces of the array there were three full length and one half length units. |
Unlike Hannington (for example) the cylinder here would have offered only the most cramped of working conditions. |
Looking "down" through the hatch at the very top. |
Again, looking down through the cylinder. |
