Show historic services

March 2003

I would advise anyone who wishes to visit this site to wear wellies - the field is very boggy. The site was probably chosen because of the dampness - it improves the efficiency of the antenna. The grey unit in the enclosure appears to be a back-up generator.

Together with Bourton-on-the-Water, Berkeley Heath entered service in 1998 to provide coverage to areas of Gloucestershire not served by Radio Gloucestershire's FM transmitters. When Radio Gloucestershire first launched in 1988 an MF service had been provided from Gloucester MF, on 603 kHz, but his was closed in 1992 as part of a plan to provide frequencies for more commercial local radio.

These are GPS receive antennas. The transmit frequency
is GPS locked because the service is in a synchronous
group with Bourton-on-the-water. There are two, one
for each transmitter (passive reserve with auto changeover).
The unit next to the green cabin is indeed an auto start
and transfer generator.
