Armed with Vinnie's photos and the Ofcom data, Dan set out in May 2011 on the Update List mission "find the FM tx antenna". As the photos below show, this was not as easy as it might appear. A return visit was made in April 2012 to document the addition of DAB, see end of page. |
Ofcom has BBC Three Counties Radio at 85m, vertical polarisation only, and with maximum ERP at 350 degrees In this view we're on the eastern side of the tower, looking up. By a process of guesswork it's possible to believe that the dipole which sticks out to the right, nearest to the top platform, might be the one. |
We're now northwest of the tower and the dipole is on the left, on the short support pole |
Not really recognisable as a broadcast antenna, but it seems to be similar to a Skymasts model S1.H which at 500W rating is more than adequate here |
Grey sky in April 2012 but there's no problem identifying the DAB array, which Ofcom puts at 102m and with maximum ERP on bearing 330 |
Much lower down, and on the other structure, this type of dish looks familiar in the context of BBC DAB sites |
