Until 1-Apr-2003 Bolberry Down was South Hams Radio's main site, transmitting the ILR service on 101.2MHz. The aerials were mounted on a new mast on the site where three taller, thinner masts stood, possibly used for medium frequency maritime radio as they had a long wire aerial strung between them. Only one now remains and this can be seen in the second picture. The third picture is a close up of the band II mixed polarization aerials used by South Hams Radio.
The three thin masts previously here were part of the now defunct Decca Navigator system. Bolberry was SW master stn 1B. Opened 29th July 1952, closed 31st March 2000.
South Hams radio has now transferred to a site near Soar |
