Paul notes: "Hendon is on the coast and part of the City of Sunderland (located just to the South of the city centre). These pictures are from the coastal side as the site is located on private land. I was unable to get any closer due to the railway line." Paul reports it was windy - this may be the cause of some "camera shake"?

Seen "across the tracks" - the DAB array is at the top of the structure

The DAB array and the slanted dipole used by Heart. Ofcom data shows maximum ERP to the west - bearing 270. The detailed parameters show a significant nulls north and south in the horizontal plane and about a 6 dB reduction to the east in the vertical plane - all due to the combination of slant-polarisation and proximity of the support pole. The ERP is quoted as 50 W vertical and 25 W horizontal

This yagi appears to face Pontop Pike, probably as a source for Heart, and the dish may provide a link for the local DAB multiplex

The feed for national DAB services. The yagi to the left seems to be directed towards Burnhope, but...

...it's actually on an adjacent building. There is another on the tower, however.

The DAB dipoles also "face" west but Ofcom data shows the maximum ERP is actually north and south, with around 4 dB reduction to the west as well as the east. This "figure of 8" pattern is the result of the additional offset from the supporting pole.

The immediate view to the east is not pretty, but see below...

The view southwards from the nearby Hendon Beach car park. The site is on top of the bank to the right

The better view eastwards from the same car park.

A final look back before heading off
