| The Lee self help relay is fed from Ilfracombe, and Michael has often reported how plagued its transmissions are by CCI from Carmel. Michael recently got in touch with an update on the status of the Lee Self-Help installation. Please update the site to note that the Lee Self-Help relay was decommissioned yesterday, 29th April 2013. Ofcom will cancel the operating licence. Unrelenting CCI from Carmel on the same frequencies as the Ilfracombe feeder since DSO rendered the relay unsustainable. Different aerial configurations were tried, with very minimal improvement observed. Most residents in the valley have meantime been helped to install a satellite dish, either on their own land or by agreement with a neighbour. A few get a signal from Wales, albeit subject to the high tidal rise and fall of the Bristol Channel. One decided to save the licence fee... Judging by the downward see-sawing trend of download speeds, it may well be the case that some are increasingly turning to iPlayer etc. |
