East Coast FM - East Lothian Community Radio - 107.6 MHz

This Community Station is based in Haddington, East Lothian, and launched on 27 April 2013.

The station has its studios in a small industrial unit situated at the former Haddington Railway Station yard. From there the programmes are fed via a simple microwave link to the existing Police mast on the Garleton Hills around a mile away. The Tx antenna is a simple vertical folded dipole located on the south side of the mast and is approximately 30 feet above ground level.

The high elevation of the Tx site ensures that the 25W signal gets out remarkably far in some directions. So much so that I can hear it relatively well at my home in Falkirk some 35 miles to the west.

The station's broadcast audio quality is excellent and is supported by RDS ident. "ECFM____" with radio text capability.

I took the photos below on Saturday afternoon, 17 May 2014.

The two towers on the flat summit of the Garleton Hills. The Police tower is the larger tower on the left.

A closer view of the Police tower. The Tx dipole is the lower dipole on the RHS of the tower.

A closer view of the Tx antenna. I believe the programme feed receive antenna is the small, white rectangular aerial just below the dipole (pointing directly towards the studio in Haddington) rather than the microwave antenna just above it. Anyone care to comment?

The station's base in the former Haddington Railway yard. Note the microwave antenna for the programme feed to the Tx site, and the Sky dish which is presumably used for reception of syndicated news bulletins and sustaining services.
