Ipswich Community Radio (ICR FM) launched in 2007 from a site at Suffolk College in Ipswich. This was shown as TM170443 in the licence application but has also been given as TM169443 in other documentation. The site was described as the roof of a 25m building which had been used for a number of Restricted Service Licence operations As a result of major re-development at the College site - including demolition of the tower block - the station transferred to a school in the Chantry area, just south west of central Ipswich. We understand the new site came into operation on 2 November 2010. It seems the school was at one point affiliated with the College so this may have influenced the choice of replacement site Since Dan's visit we understand the building shown in these photos has also been demolished, again as part of a major re-development. The antennas have presumably been transferred to another part of the school site. Third time lucky! Update Sep 2017: Alex's pictures (the last two here) show the new arrangement. |
The school renamed as "Suffolk New Academy" in 2013 (and is now "Chantry Academy") but Ofcom has retained the original name in its records This brightly-decorated building ("Block A") near the junction with Mallard Road was demolished in the summer of 2015 as the school had moved to a new building |
The licence application (for the previous site) states that a 50MHz link is in use, with the transmit antenna a folded dipole. However an end-fed type has been substituted somewhere along the line |
