There are no services transmitted from Hargrave but the site was important for distributing analogue TV and BBC radio to the three main transmitter sites in East Anglia. I understand that site was established in the late 1980's by the IBA, but was also shared by the BBC. The performance of both direct SHF links from Tacolneston to Sudbury, and RBL reception of Tacolneston at Sudbury left much to be desired, both suffering from considerable fading during abnormal propagation conditions.
Hargrave conveniently has line-of-sight for SHF links to and from Tacolneston, Sudbury and Sandy Heath. TV from Norwich, via Tacolneston to Hargrave and then onward to both Sudbury and Sandy Heath. In the other direction, BBC radio NICAM from Sandy Heath to Tacolneston. |
