Show historic services

December 2016

Manchester One/Portland Tower was completed in 1962, and is, as of 2016, the seventh tallest building in Manchester. Gaydio started in June 2010, Unity Radio starting a month afterwards.

Gaydio is based in Manchester One, but Unity Radio's studios are separate, so some kind of STL must be in place.

Manchester One and City Tower (previously known as Sunley Tower) are relatively close together. City Tower is some 27 metres taller than Manchester One, but the perspective makes it look otherwise!

The broadcast antennas at Manchester One are on the right hand end of the plant room, approximately half way along the building.

Around the front, the DAB 'stick' and two slanted dipoles are visible, as well as lots of SHF dishes and lots of non-broadcast yagis.

The trial DAB service is just 100 watts. The Band II array is on the opposite face of the plant room.

Around the back, both dipoles are visible.

Both FM stations share the same antennas, and broadcast at the same power (37 watts).

Lots of SHF links are in use at this site.
