Market Drayton was listed as a future site for DAB at the time of Alan's visit, however no antennas had been installed. Services commenced on 16 June 2017. In the meantime more seems to have been removed from this water tower than has been added. The DAB installation is complete and operational and there seems to have been some rationalisation of the mobile phone antennas. This is another site where the local multiplex is at higher ERP (555 W) than the other services (19 W). Despite this "filler" there was a glitch in reception of the BBC multiplex when approaching Market Drayton on the A53 from the east - and again when leaving. |
Above: the view in January 2017. Below: a similar perspective in April 2019. |
The domestic antenna should be facing the Wrekin. We understand the DAB feed is via SHF link so there should be a dish facing in the same direction. A reduction in the number of mobile phone antennas, with the central stub tower virtually empty. However we now have a pair of DAB yagis... |
...from the "front" it would be possible to see two pairs of yagis - but the bright sunshine behind defeated the camera. (Or maybe defeated the photographer). One pair is close to the microwave dish, on the left, the other is above the mobile phone panels on the right. |
This pair faces approximately north east... |
...while the others seem to be approximately west - there is less than 180 degrees between the two pairs. Ofcom data, meanwhile, gives maximum ERP on bearing 065. |
This new-looking green enclosure is very likely for DAB |
The site is managed by Wireless Infrastructure Group. As of 2019 they have over 2000 sites in the UK |
