March 2017

The Europa Hotel is in Belfast city centre, and is the 14th tallest building in the city. It has a great outlook over Belfast, so it's no surprise that two city-wide community stations broadcast from here.

Blast 106 started broadcasting in December 2009, Belfast FM in June 2016. Both stations are 50 watts mixed polarization.

It seems Blast and Belfast FM share studios just across the road from the hotel. I assume some sort of radio link is in place.

Update 2019: Richard Rudge contacted us with the following about locations:

"Just for clarification: Blast 106 and Belfast FM have separate studios in different buildings in different roads. However these two buildings are virtually next door to each other so there are probably two links pointing in the same direction."

Thank you Richard.

From research using Google Street View (image from June 2014) and comparing to the photo above, only the Lindenblad we see on the right was visible in 2014; the one on the left wasn't there then. This confirms that Blast 106 is using the antenna on the right, as Belfast FM didn't start broadcasting until 2016.
