February 2024

The Willaston site transmitted the community radio station Flame CCR on 1521khz, until its departure from medium wave on March 31st, 2024. The station started broadcasting from Willaston around October 2011 when its transmitter moved from Bidston.

The site is on private property and is not viewable from the public roads due to it being deep in some woods. However, the owners of the site very kindly allowed me to visit the transmitter up close and publish these photos. This site is one of the last ones not photographed due to these reasons, so thank you for that!

Since Flame left medium wave, the site is now empty.

The antenna in the fence. The ground can get quite marshy after it has been raining, so it's not a surprise the antenna is a bit askew.
I am assuming the transmitter is in the green box behind it.

The antenna is supported by some guy wires...

...routed around some trees and into the ground.
