Comments: Macclesfield is a relay of Winter Hill

Show historic services

Andy B says: This one is exactly where the NGR says it should be, right next to the car park of Macclesfield Golf Club. The view over Macclesfield shows no great topography that might impede reception of Winter Hill but some houses at the bottom of the hill (Windmill Street) below the transmitter use its signals.

Macclesfield was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service in August 1980 to serve 3500 people. Channel 4 was added on 5-Jul-1985. The original structure was a 17m wooden pole. TV transmissions were transferred to this lattice mast on 28-Oct-2003.
