DOG HILL

Photos by Harry Broughton Page last updated: 2016-07-20

Photographs taken June 2016

Harry writes: images of Dog Hill taken June 2016.

Dog Hill really is located rather high up the Pennine Hills and there is an exceptional view over the nearer Greater Manchester area, with views even as far as Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales and into Staffordshire. Unfortunately those views were reduced considerably by the dull weather. The transmitter serves parts of the town of Shaw, and then Northwards as far as the small village of New Hey, in between Milnrow and Shaw, these locations being slightly out of line of sight from Winter Hill due to local hills, although many houses - in particularly around Shaw - have settled for higher gain installs on Winter Hill. Nevertheless this is a fairly well-used local relay.

General view of the transmitter and the scenery around, unfortunately hindered by the greyness of the evening

A close up of the transmit log periodics.

The single receive log on Winter Hill, a clear line of sight 15-20 miles to the West.

The tower overlooks a huge part of the North West of England; the town of Shaw is visible below, where the relay is used quite a bit.

A view Southwards towards the town of Oldham; on the ridge line you may just be able to make out the North Oldham relay.
